About us
Punjab Veterinary Council was established under the Punjab Veterinary
Council Act 1981. The first adhoc Council came into existence during
the year 1983 and thereafter the State Council continued to be
constituted as per State Act till the year 1993.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha through an unanimous resolution extended the
Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 to the State of Punjab and
repealed the above said State Act. It was on 4th of May 1994 that
Gazette Notification was issued by the Govt. of India in this behalf
and this Act of Parliament extended to the State of Punjab.
Thereafter, the Punjab State Veterinary Council is being constituted
under the Central Act and the Notification for the purpose is being
issued by the Government of Punjab from time to time.
The Rules to the Act were framed by the State Council and got notified
by the Government of Punjab in the year 1997.
The Government of Punjab, Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries &
Dairy Development (Animal Husbandry Section) has now vide Notification
18/104/2001-A.H-6/2977, dated 22nd July, 2020 constituted
the Punjab State Veterinary Council under the provisions of the Indian
Veterinary Council Act, 1984, consisting of the followings :-

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
(i)
The Council is receiving funds under Non-plan for salaries for
the Staff of the Council from the State Government. There is a
provision of Rs. 39,24,000/- for the purpose for the current financial
year 2020-21.
Besides, amount is also being received for office expenses which
include printing & stationery, running & maintenance of staff car,
office telephone bills etc. etc.
(ii)
The Council also receives funds under Central Sponsored
Scheme, “Professional Efficiency Development” under which 50% share is
provided by the Central Govt and remaining 50% share by the State
Government.
During the financial 2016-17 an amount of Rs. 33.50 lakh were released
to the Council under the scheme. Various trainings on various latest
professional topics are held to update skill of the registered
veterinary practitioners. Similar trainings will continue every year.
(iii)
Besides the Council also receives Full Registration Fee,
Renewal Registration Fee etc as provided under the provisions of the
Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984. On an average Rs. 4 to 4.50 lacs
are being received during a financial year on various heads of fees
etc.
STAFF
Dr. Sarabjit Singh,

Rasila Avenue, Batala is an elected President of the Punjab State
Veterinary Council and
Dr. Baljit Singh Ghuman, Senior Veterinary Officer, Civil Veterinary
Hospital, Jalandhar is presently holding the additional charge of the
post of the Registrar, Vety Council. Besides, a Superintendent, one
supporting staff against a post of Clerk, two Peons, a Driver , and a
Chowkidar are also posted in the office of the Council. .
OFFICE & ASSETS
The office of the Punjab State Veterinary Council is operating from
Livestock Complex, 3rd Floor, Sector 68, SAS Nagar-160062.
The major assets of the council are a Staff Car, 3 Computers, two
Laptops, one telephone connection, Photostat Machine, furniture and
fixture and other material required for the smooth running of Office
of the Council.
